Hi, I'm Pat Me! the owner, cashier, and janitor of Smilin' Coyote!

I love the colors and the cultures of the Southwest so much that I moved to New Mexico from Pennsylvania and opened Smilin' Coyote in June of 1998.


Until February of 2002, I did actually have a "brick-and-mortar" store. Unfortunately I just couldn't make a living with just the store so I had to get a "real job" again and shut down the store. But here is what it looked like:

I put an alien mask on him for the UFO Festival. I don't think he would mind. I think he had a sense of humor!

My philosophy towards this Internet site is the same one that I had in the store - personalized service.

So, I don't have an autoresponder or any of the other automating programs that e-businesses are so fond of, although the Shopping Cart system I have sends an automatic order confirmation but you will hear from me too. I prefer to communicate personally with my customers and prospective customers. I am happy to help you find a special gift or something that is "just right" for your home, although it is a little harder now that I am working long hours. I will try to email you photographs of anything I have that might work for you. I want you to feel like you have visited the Smilin' Coyote store rather than just pushed buttons on an anonymous web page!

The traditional and contemporary Southwest items I have come from Mexico, from Native American artists and artisans, and from local Southwest artisans. I carry prints by Native American artists and a line of Southwest-themed Peter Hurd prints.

And, of course, who can forget the wonderful Native American-made silver and turquoise jewelry. I buy from the Navajo and Pueblo Indians of New Mexico. I also have cloisonné jewelry by Chris Litt of Santa Fe.

Whether you are redecorating a room or looking for a gift, I would like to help you to find that special something. What I hope to do with this site is show you some of the beautiful things I have in my store and, hopefully, entice you to buy some of them. So let's get started!


My personal guarantee to you:

  1. I guarantee that the items on the web site are exactly as specified although some slight variations in color may occur due to monitor settings.
  2. I will personally answer by email every order to give you the ship date and approximate expected date of receipt.
  3. I offer a money back guarantee on anything you are not satisfied with, except Special Orders (see below). But I do have to be realistic about refunds. If you purchase something and it is as was shown on the web site but you just don't like it, please return it and I will refund the price of the item. If, however, I make a mistake and the item is not as shown, please ship it back for a prompt refund of the item price and the shipping both ways. I think that's fair.
  4. Unfortunately, due to some problem customers, I will have to charge you for an item that I order especially for you. I have been stuck with items that I ordered for customers who then didn't respond or gave me a bogus credit card number. I'm sorry but you know - one bad apple! Thanks for understanding.
