Smilin' Coyote

Navajo and Mexican Pottery

These pots are all hand-made by Navajo Indians of Gallup, New Mexico. Each is made from local clay, hand-shaped and painted, then the surface is carved to reveal the terra cotta color of the clay. The carved designs are traditional feathers, mountains and geometrics, while the painted colors are those of the Southwest. Each unique pot is signed on the bottom by its creator.

Folk Art

If you watch "Antiques Roadshow" like I do, then you know that collecting Folk Art is becoming very popular.

Folk Art is basically art that is created by self-taught artists. Art from the heart and soul of the creator, often unsigned.

I have a few pieces of Folk Art that I would like to share with you.

Andean Villages
The Andes Mountains are a bit south of the American Southwest but I thought these little villages would complement Southwest or any decor.

The villages each have ten ceramic houses, one church and a fountain. They are glued to a piece of masonite that measures 9" deep and 16" wide. The church is the tallest building at just shy of 5" and the artist has signed his name on the back of the church. I am told that the artist recently passed away.

I only have three left.
